Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve is the only place that allows for hunting birds and animals in Nepal. The hunting reserve was established on 1987 spreading over 1,325 square kilometers in the Dhaulagiri mountain of western Nepal. The reserve area altitude ranges from the 2,850 meters to 5,500 meters. As a small country Nepal has managed enough effort towards the conservation and sustainability of biodiversity. Nature has gifted Nepal with the natural beauties like mountains, hilly regions along with waterfalls & rivers which are home to many species of birds and animals. There are National Parks, Wildlife Reserves, and the hunting reserves declared to preserve the wildlife, flora & greenery.

The region is categorized alpine, subalpine, and high-temperature vegetation common plants like rhododendron, oak, fir, pine, birch, juniper, and spruce. Because of the higher elevation, there are several pasturelands. Reserve is one of the prime habitats’ for blue sheep and Himalayan Thar, and other animals including leopard, ghoral, black beer, barking deer, apes, wild boar, rhesus macaque, and mouse. Some of the controlled hunting endangered animals in these reserve areas include musk deer, red panda, wolf, cheer pheasant, and Himalayan Monal (Lophophorus).

The region is almost covered by villages in southern, western, and eastern parts. There are seven hunting blocks four in the southern part and three in the Northern part of the reserved area.

Dhorpatan Region is also a best & affordable place for trekking and hiking in comparison to Annapurna Base camp & Mt.Everest . Explore the natural and cultural beauty of the Dhorpatan region by traveling through the settlements. The best combo of Hill tribes and the Tibetan Refugees offer their unique taste of culture. The panoramic views of Himalayas of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri region are just undefinable. The trekking begins and ends at Beni, Myagdi.
